Pizzaleah at the Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience

Dan Berger, Tom Simoneau, Leah Scurto of Pizzaleah and Justin Seidenfeld.

Pizzaleah owner and pizza chef Leah Scurto joins California Wine Country with Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger. She has brought samples of her pizza and will tell us about her restaurant and the delicious pizzas she will be making at the Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience, coming on May 20-22. (Tom Simoneau is also in the studio with Karissa Kruse and Steve De Veres, who are organizing the big event. Their entire conversation about that is on this other podcast episode, while this episode is all about pizza!) 🍕

The Award-Winning Nico

Leah Scurto has brought a pizza recipe called Nico that she will be making at the Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience. At the CIA-copia in Napa, the Nico won the Real Californian Award. It features garlic confit, fresh rosemary, black pepper and is finished with Parmigiano Reggiano. Leah is excited about the Healdsburg event in May, especially for the opportunity to sample the fare from all the other chefs who will be there.

Leah Scurto moved to the area in 2018 with the intention of opening a pizzeria. She opened in March of 2020, “… a perfect time to open a pizzeria. (…) It went swimmingly.” They managed to survive pretty well through Covid, when people were eating a lot of pizza.

Steve de Veres offers the story of how they found Pizzaleah to add to the roster of restaurants at the Healdsburg Wine and Food Experience. Several of the other chefs at the event told them about her excellent pizza and said that she should be there too. Leah feels fortunate and is grateful that Pizzaleah pizzas are often featured in many local wineries’ tasting rooms. Tom Simoneau mentions that he has encountered Pizzaleah pizza while out tasting wine around the area.
